UWC: Lee Wieczorek Exclusive

By Steve Wickett

AddictedMMA were lucky enough to grab a few minutes of Lee Wieczorek's time. Lee is currently the Ultimate Warrior Challenge (UWC) Lightweight Champion and is riding a four fight win streak.

Touted by team mates and several UK MMA pundits as one to watch out for we put a few questions Lee's way.

AddictedMMA: Hi Lee, thanks for taking some time out for me today.

LW: No problem, it’s a pleasure.

AddictedMMA: So Lee before we start you’re currently the Ultimate Warrior Challenge Lightweight Champion, you’ve a pro record of 9-3 and you train at Team Sure Grip in Essex, England.

Is there anything else that we need to know about Lee Wieczorek?

LW: Even though I am a lightweight don’t be fooled, I can eat A LOT! Ask my boy Stav!

AddictedMMA: Looking at your fight record it has an impressive record of finishes on there that not many veterans with 40+ fights can boast! TKO’s, triangle chokes, a north south choke and even an omoplata! Would it be fair to say that you’re not worried where the fight goes over the course of fifteen minutes?

LW: I train in every area obviously for mma, so where the fight goes, the fight goes. I try to be as well prepared for any situation that can happen in there. If a fight takes me 15 minutes or 15 seconds it doesn’t matter. As long as I am the dominant fighter and have my hand raised at the end of the fight!

AddictedMMA: How much of a benefit is it to train BJJ under Daniel Burzotta? There can’t be many guys around in the UK who have a black belt under Royce Gracie as Daniel does!

LW: It’s a huge benefit, Dan has amazing BJJ! There is so much to learn and Dan is always willing to teach. I try to pick his brain with positions and submission when I am rolling with guys all the time.

AddictedMMA: So when’s the next fight? Your last fight was a TKO win in less than 30 seconds in Abu Dhabi (ADFC 3) in March. You must be itching to get back in the cage and defend the belt?

LW: I am hoping to get another fight in this year, I have nothing confirmed yet. I should get at least another fight in this year. Unfortunately I was injured after ADFC, and then when I was ready to fight again some fights just didn’t come through. I am looking forward to getting back in the cage, I look forward to the challenge when I do get back into the cage!

AddictedMMA: Talking of Abu Dhabi, what a great experience that must have been for you? Are you looking to get back out there and fight again?

LW: Abu Dhabi was a great experience. Everything was great, the venue, the crowd; I had a great time out there! We were treated very well, a great promotion to fight for. I would love to go back and fight on ADFC again.

AddictedMMA: How exciting is it to be fighting for Ultimate Warrior Challenge though? The promotion is picking up steam and getting a real reputation for having great up and coming fighters, exciting fights, great finishes and hot ring girls on every card?

LW: Ultimate Warrior Challenge is a great show to fight for; I cannot say enough good things about them. They treat the fighters well, a smoothly run show, great fight cards with top talented fighters from all over the world. A prime example being at the last UWC they had Simeon Thoresen against Fabricio Nascimento! It’s always a great experience fighting on their show, especially as it’s a local show for me, so I get a lot of support there.

AddictedMMA: I see that you’ve already avenged one of the three losses on your record (Tommy Maguire), are you looking to avenge the other two somewhere down the line?

LW: If those were fights to come up then so be it, but I am not actively looking for those fights. The past is the past and everything happens for a reason they say. I feel I’ve learned from my losses and am a better fighter for it.

AddictedMMA: So what’s the ultimate aim for you, the UFC? And where do you see yourself in five years time?

LW: Ultimately I would like to get to a major organisation like the UFC. I think every fighter would like to fight for them. In five years time I would like to be able to give up work and do this full time, be a better fighter and be putting on fight on the night performances, finishing fights!

AddictedMMA: Who if anyone has been your inspiration so far in your career?

LW: The thing that got me interested in learning mma was when I see Sean Sherk vs. Matt Hughes. Two guys going at it, but they wasn’t lumbering big guys they were more athletic, with good cardio and still strong. I guess over all Sean Sherk is one of my favourite fighters, his always in shape with great cardio and always come to fight hard and win.

AddictedMMA: If you could choose to fight anyone in the world right now who would you take on?

LW: I don’t really like to choose to fight someone, but I guess I would like to maybe fight someone like Caol Uno. A great fighter with a lot of experience behind him, would be interesting.

AddictedMMA: In your opinion who is the UK’s number one “pound for pound” fighter?

LW: The UK’s pound for pound number one, very tough question. I think Paul Daley has to be up there, his doing big things lately, plus I like watching him KO guys! Also Brad Pickett, his doing very well right now. Very tough question.

AddictedMMA: Before we leave you alone is there anyone you’d like to thank or send a shout out to?

LW: I’d like to thanks Dan Burzotta, and the guys at TSG, without them I wouldn’t be the fighter I am. My manager Alex Burzotta at UKMMA1. Craig Maddocks and Dan Osman at Excel Health and Performance, helping me with my conditioning and diet. John Rushton Also my family and friends for all their support! Also AddictedMMA for interviewing me.

AddictedMMA: Finally our signature question…. What are you Addicted to?

LW: Cake! Any dessert really, plus I eat chicken pretty much every day.

AddictedMMA: Great, thanks for your time Lee and all the best in your next fight!

LW: Thanks guys!
