Niko Gjoka talks Shock N Awe X

Niko Gjoka has a wealth of experience behind him, 13 pro fights worth. And he will be calling on all that experience when he steps into the cage with the explosive Owen "5ft Hero" Gayle on March 10th, at the Pyramids centre in Southsea for the highly anticipated Shock N Awe X card.
Coming off a stunning victory against the very tough Joe Orrey at VOK The Uprising on Febuary 18th, Niko will be looking to keep that momentum going by beating the young super hero who everybody seems to have their eyes on.
Its time to meet Niko Gjoka, Addicts.

Addicted: Thank you for taking some time to talk to us, Niko. How is your preparation for this fight with Owen Gayle, the 5ft hero going?

Niko: Preparation for this fight has been awesome and best of all, as usual, I'm loving the training and can't wait for the fight to come around.

Addicted: Can you tell us a little about your martial arts background?

Niko: I've been training now for about 10 years starting out competing in Karate and Kickboxing, before mixing my stand up with some other disciplines and entering in to pro rules MMA. I jumped right in at the deep end and didn't have any amateur or semi-pro fights and the experiences in my early bouts are something I'd never trade in for a few soft wins. I actually enjoyed fighting in a number of different weight classes on my way up.

Addicted: Owen is a very tricky guy to fight. He's very unorthodox and explosive. Do you feel you have a winning game-plan coming into this fight?

Niko: I always enter training camp for every fight with the mind-set of "fail to prepare and prepare to fail" so yes, I think I've got the tools to get the job done because I've prepared so well for this fight with an interesting opponent.

Addicted: Owen was very outspoken in his press release and didn't hold back his feelings about you. Do you have a message that you would like to send back to him?

Niko: Owen seems to be a right character and MMA needs those types of people, but I'm never one to talk badly about a fellow professional. He obviously put a lot of effort in to his statement and all the lads on the AVT team had a right good laugh at him.

Addicted: The Shock N Awe brand has grown at such a fast rate and this is clearly the biggest fight card the South Coast has ever seen. How does it feel to be fighting such a high profile fight, on such a historic night for south-coast MMA?

Niko: It's brilliant and I'm really looking forward to the whole experience. I love everything about MMA, from the training, to the weigh-in, right down to soaking up the atmosphere as you enter the arena. And I'm sure the Shock N Awe crowd will have a great time too.

Addicted: Your victory against Joe Orrey on the brilliant Valley of Kings fight card last month was a great spectacle and a tough fight. Has that helped your mind set for this fight?

Niko: I've always been mentally and physically tough and the thing I liked most about that fight was the fact I was able to switch up my game plan mid fight and get the win. Joe was a cracking opponent and we had a great chat after the fight. That's what's good professionals can do.

Addicted: Are there any other fights on the Shock N Awe card that you are looking forward to seeing?

Niko: To be honest, I enjoy watching the guys starting out in their career just as much as the people that have got a good few fight under their belt, so I'll be looking and learning from every single one of the warriors fighting on this card and no doubt making some new friends too.

Addicted: Are there any shout outs that you would like to give, Niko?

Niko: I want to say a massive thanks to my coach Danny "Cheesecake Assassin" Mitchell and all the AVT Team for helping me get ready for this fight, and especially to my training partner Gaz "The Angry" Firm. Also, big, big thanks to my sponsor John Andrew, the owner of Direct Golf UK.

Addicted: And of course, our signature question. Outside of MMA, what is Niko Gjoka addicted to?

Niko: I love flips, tricks, kicks and chocolate, as well as getting my tan on in the sunny hotspot of Huddersfield!

Addicted: Well thank you very much for your time Niko and we hope your journey to the south-coast is a safe one.All the best from the Addicted crew.
