What is your:
Career High?
Winning my pro debut, I fought a very tough guy in Chris Grieg who had way more experience than me, from an extremely well versed team in Team Titan, and I managed to pile the pressure on and stop him with a body shot after relentless barrage of knees to the ribs... and that was after a tough first round too, I felt the pressure in that fight and I was so pleased with getting the W!
Career Low?
I lost one fight at Semi-pro. But I would never say that was my career low, because of that fight I have gone on to be unbeaten in six Semi-Pro fights and three pro fights so it inspired me to be a better fighter... I think my lowest point so far in my all round MMA game is when I lost to John Maguire in our in house grappling tournament at Christmas! Man that annoyed me (laughs). John will tell you!!! I was upset for days!
Career Ambition?
To inspire others into changing their lives.
Toughest Ever Fight?
I've had a few tough points.... Probably my first ever semi-pro fight because I didn't have a clue what I was doing.... and I got my Jaw broken in the first round but I carried on to stop Alan Packmann in the second round, but I have much tougher experiences to come!
Favourite Ever Fight?
Ben Callum on UCMMA 26. The atmosphere at UCMMA is the best I've fought in front of, and I was so pumped for that fight, I was a massive underdog, and people thought Ben was going to run through me, and I feel I proved a lot to myself and the MMA fans by taking him out. Plus it's just my favourite because I got to do the full 15 minutes and show a good array of skills and test myself. Thanks to Ben for a great fight!
Favourite way to end a fight?
Submission. I am a technical thinking fighter and it feels like I've truly earned the finish technically when I get the tap! Means the work in the gym has paid off. There aren't many 'lucky' submissions.
Favourite ever MMA event?
UFC Sweden is the best to date, I was there it was live and I saw my teammate John Maguire pick up SOTN and fellow Brits Brad Pickett & Jason Young get the W! Plus I've trained with Alexander Gustafsson and to witness him coming out to 16,000 Swedish fans cheering for him in his home town and to see him so calm and relaxed, picking a real aggressive beast like Thiago Silva apart was inspiring, he's my age and just hard working guy who's living his dream.
Favourite MMA Promotion?
The UFC of course... how else can you answer this? I suppose Dream/Pride was pretty sweet! WEC was good until that disappeared, but the UFC is where it's at. On UK soil, I'd say BAMMA, UCMMA & Cage Warriors are all competing for the top spot!
Favourite Movie?
Man on Fire or The Hurricane!
Favourite Artist/Band?
Pink Floyd are amazing.... I think we are living in one of the worst generations in the music industry ever! Although Rhianna can't seem to make a bad song (laughs).
Favourite Food?
I've got a thing for Chicken Avocado & Bacon together... in anything!
Favourite Alcoholic Beverage?
Dark Rum, Fresh Lime & Ginger Ale
Favourite Sport (Apart from MMA)?
I'm not a very sporty person, I think pure athletes are impressive, and I used to love Basketball... but nowadays anything without a good takedown in it bores me! But I have the up most respect for any athlete that cares about their sport and can make the sacrifices needed to get somewhere with it!
Who:
Is your f
avourite fighter of all time?
I don't really have any real idealistic view of anyone to be like 'omg its...' but Matt Hughes was the man, more recently I love watching Benson Henderson fight! I think the lightweight division is probably the most stacked in the UFC and he is a beast! I used to love watching him in the WEC.
Would you most like to fight (any weight and era)?
Erm... Anderson Silva... in like 3/4 years? (Laughs) Does that count?
Would you least like to meet in a dark alley?
Hector Lombard! When I met that guy in broad daylight he scared the shit outta me! But actually not that much of a bad guy... just don't upset him.
Would you want alongside you in a bar fight?
Man obviously my team mates John & Tommy Maguire... there's a whole side of Gypsy Jiu-Jitsu you don't see in the cage... I've seen it... it's pretty damn intense
.
Is your favourite MMA Ring Girl?
I don't really understand the whole Arianny Celeste thing... and I cringe even answering this question because it's lame! But for the Addicted readers (laughs) it's Natalie Lawrence from Cage Warriors! I'm a brunette man, and I'm not gonna lie! I read her Ring Girl of the Month interview with you guys at AddictedMMA! So she better read mine... (laughs). I've got no idea if she is nice or interesting to talk to! But that's not really in a Cage Girls job description; she's got the rest down! When I fight on that promotion she best be in my corner!
Is your inspiration in life?
To represent the idea of chasing your dreams, rather than being part of the socialite money hungry society that has immerged in the world and inspire others to not fall into the trap of believing society's lies that you MUST do the norm.
I want to represent an IDEA that inspires me.
And of course my mother & father are very inspiring people in my life they give me the drive I have to achieve greatness.
Random:
Pick three of your team mates and describe them using only one word?
1. Jack Mason - Inspirational
2. John Maguire - Hungry
3. Robbie Olivier - Hobbit
Do you have any superstitions?
Nope! I'm not the sort of person to put anything down to anyone else but myself.
First thing you eat after weighing in?
Caramel & chocolate flapjacks! Man they are good, but I'm not sure they are the best for me!
What is the stupidest thing you have ever done?
I stopped believing that I can achieve anything.
What is the worst injury you've ever suffered?
Broken jaw is probably the worst! That sucked, it was over Christmas and I had to have a Christmas dinner shake through a straw bloody idiot! HANDS UP!
And Finally....What are you Addicted to?
Man.... These little cheap cookies that you can buy from Tesco or somewhere... whenever I go to see my mother she's always got a cookie jar full of them, and by the time I've left they are gone! I have to ring her and ask her to empty it if I'm cutting weight! It's terrible! Man! I'm gonna go buy a pack now!
