Talking SENI with Joe Long.

Joe Long is a busy man, that's for sure. This weekend sees the return of the world's biggest martial arts expo - the SENI. Something Joe has been putting all of his time towards to make sure that everybody who buys a ticket walks away with a smile on their face. Joe was kind enough to give us 20 minutes out of his hectic schedule to let us know the ins and outs of what is going down on what is one of the most important weekends for UK martial arts. With his very open, honest and professional approach it's clear that Joe takes a lot of pride in his work and sets the bar very high with the product he is sending out.

Where others have stumbled Joe and his Fighters Inc company have striven. Make no mistake, the SENI will be a massive success and a huge percentage of that will be down to the business skills of Mr Joe Long.

Now let's find out what Joe has to say:

Addicted: So Joe, thank you for taking this time to chat to the Addicted. Firstly can you tell us how you got into martial arts?

Joe: Thanks Ben, it's a pleasure. I first walked into a karate class with a friend of mine when I was seven years old. I really enjoyed it so I stuck with it and went on to win some great competitions. Although I don't compete anymore, I still hold many of those memories close to my heart. They were good times.

Addicted: So you don't do it anymore? Do you miss it much?

Joe: If I'm honest, I don't miss it. I enjoy the memories. But it was always about competition for me and those days are gone. Some people are happy to go to karate classes for years and walk up and down a room punching the air. Where I feel my competitive years are behind me, I have no worries about letting it go.

Addicted: Fair play to you, Joe. Quite frankly, I enjoy not getting punched and kicked in the face anymore, but each to their own.
So in just a few words, describe this year's SENI?

Joe: The SENI is like a Mecca for all forms of martial arts, be it traditional martial arts, boxing ,mixed martial arts or other combat sports with maybe a few surprises thrown in. It's a great place to learn a number of new things. It also helps people to keep up with the evolution of these different disciplines.

Addicted: The SENI runs every two years but the amount of work that goes into organising it must seem overwhelming at times, how do you cope with it all?

Joe: Well, as well as the Fighters Inc crew we have roughly 30 other people working alongside us to keep things running smoothly. A lot of work goes into the organising and we feel we have a lot to offer the people. It's important to me to be able to stand back and see the people enjoying the expo as well as doing all the things that will be keeping me busy.

I'm also looking forward to getting a bit of a chat with the likes of Jeff Monson, Michael Bisping and Alistair Overeem.

Addicted: So all of this must be tough for you, especially aspects such as spending time with your family?

Joe: Well the run up to the show is a hell of a lot of hard work. It's vital to have a professional experience that runs perfectly. But of course this can be hard on my family. So I will be making sure to spend plenty of time and having lots of fun with them after the show.

Addicted: Do you have anybody that you would like to thank Joe?

Joe: Yeah I would like to thank everyone who has supported, got a ticket and is exhibiting at this year's show!

Addicted: Nice one. And of course Joe we are not letting you get back to your work until you answer our signature question. Outside of martial arts, what is Joe Long addicted to?

Joe: My addiction outside of martial arts? Mmmm good question!
I have a friend that I can blame for this. But if you happen to be in a casino, you may find me hovering over the roulette table. I find it a good way to unwind and relax. I picked that addiction up about a year and a half ago.
(laughs)

Addicted: Well thank you for your time once again Joe, we will let you get back to it as we can only imagine how busy you are. We wish you the best of luck with the SENI and we are sure once again it will be a huge success.
