Andy Kerr talks Shock N Awe 11
There is no doubt that Andy Kerr is a dude that comes to fight. And that is exactly what he will be doing on the evening of July 14th in the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth. In his co-main event against Alexei "Boom" Roberts, Andy will be fighting for the British Welterweight title. After an incredible display of control and destruction at Shock N Awe 10, AddictedMMA are very excited to see what this young talent brings to the table. But that's easier said than done when the guy standing across the cage from you is Alexei Roberts. But at the end of the day every match up on Shock N Awe is going to be a tough challenge, especially if you are fighting for a belt. Lets go see what Andy has to say about his match up and how his training down at the Ippon gym has been going.Addicted: Hey Andy how are you and how has your preparation for your title shot been going?
Andy: It's going great thanks. Training for this fight has been the best I've had; I didn't take too much time off after the last fight.
Addicted: Your last fight under the Shock N Awe banner seemed pretty much like a flawless victory against 'Crazy' James Caird. Was there anything that you would have changed?
Andy: More elbows and not getting poked in the eye. (I've been eye poked or kicked in the nuts in every fight I've had!) My hands were killing me after that fight, James just kept eating shots and I was wondering, what his head was made out of.
Addicted: Alexei is certainly a tough fighter to beat, have you prepared a game plan or are you looking to feel the fight out?
Andy: With Alexei I think the fact he is so durable means I'll have to see where the fight leads and take the openings he gives me. From watching footage on him I believe I can deal with the strong parts of his game and impose myself on him as the fight goes on. I think it'll be a war.
Addicted: Do you have a message that you would like to leave for Alexei?
Andy: Yeah! Simply "Im looking forward to meeting you in the cage Alexei."
Addicted: How does it feel to co-main event on such a big promotion so early in your career?
Andy: Yeah that was a massive shock considering I only fought once on Shock n Awe. I was preparing to fight Fred Harrington which was a fight I was looking forward to but when Brian offered Alexei for the title, I couldn't turn it down.
It's a privilege to get the opportunity and a massive leap in competition so I'm looking forward to testing myself to see where I'm at.
Addicted:Winning the belt would be such a huge step for you in your career should you take the strap home, who do you see yourself defending it against in the future?
Andy: No idea really, there are so many welterweights in the UK, I'll leave the match making to Brian and Jeff.
Addicted:Are there any other fights on the card that you are particularly looking forward to seeing?
Andy: Looking forward to seeing Sam Rea fight and the war horse Paul Rocha.
Addicted:Are there any shout outs you would like to give Andy?
Andy: Yep thanks to Jeff, Alex, Carl and the lads from Ippon for beasting me.
Addicted: And of course our signature question. Outside of MMA what is Andy Kerr addicted to?
Andy: Bodyboarding and Thai food.
Addicted: Well im with you on the Thai food buddy. All the best on July 14th Andy and we at Addicted hope you and Alexei light up the evening.
