Davey Grant Ready for Shock N Awe 11

Anticipation for Shock N Awe 11 has reached fever pitch, and with just a days left before the lights go down and the action begins, AddictedMMA have been in touch with one half of the main event, Davey Grant!

The Wolfslair fighter has amassed a pro record of 6-1 and with his eye on the reputable Shock N Awe BW title currently held by his opponent James Pennington, Grant will be looking to continue to move forward with his promising career!

Here is what he had to say to AddictedMMA:

Hi Davey and thanks for taking the time! Can you start by telling us a little about your martial arts background and how you ended up involved in MMA?

Well I started training MMA back in 2001 when hardly anyone knew what it was and had my first amateur fight at the age of 15 back in 2002, but then had a huge lay off until I was about 21. I then started training and fighting again but a lot more seriously this time.

How are you feeling with just a few days left before fight night, and how has training in general been going?

I'm feeling really hungry (laughs), but I've a great camp for this fight and feel I'm in the best shape of my life.

Being connected to the Wolfslair gym must give you access some to great training partners! Who has been helping you out?

Yes definitely, and I think at the moment I'm training with some of the best fighters in the UK scene, too many to name but they know who they are!

With a record that currently stands at 6-1, do you have any immediate goals that you have set yourself within the world of MMA?

No, I'm just taking one fight at a time and trying to keep improving.

Your opponent James Pennington had a few things to say in the build-up to this fight. Did you see them and do you have any kind of response?

I didn't see any of his comments as I don't spend a lot of time on the forums and stuff, but a few of my training partners told me some of the things he'd been saying and it just made me laugh. He seems like a funny guy.

Until now you have fought exclusively on the Total Combat promotion, will the change in event make any sort of difference to you?

No, I'm looking forward to a change of scenery.

Shock N Awe has exploded in popularity and is the marquee event in the South of England, is it the event or the opponent that has drawn you to Portsmouth this July 14th?

It was a bit of both really and I think it's a good step forward for my career.

Do you know anyone that is fighting on this card and are there any other fights you are looking forward to seeing?

I'm afraid I don't really know many of the other fighters on the show with it being so far away but I'm sure they'll make for some cracking fights.

Who would you like thank or give a shout-out to ahead of the big night Davey?

I'd just like to thank my main sponsor Jeff Dobson Marquee Hire for all the help they've given me throughout my career, as well as my supplement sponsor Grant's Gym and my clothing sponsor Legacy Clothing Co.

I'd also like to thank all my coaches and training partners from all the gyms I train at, North East Top Team, The Fight Pit, Spartans, Sixth Sense MMA, Darlington Boxing and Martial Arts Academy, SBG Mainline and The MMA Academy for all their help in preparation for this fight, it is all really appreciated. Also a special mention to my family and friends for always being there, and especially my fiancé and two children for putting up with me!

And at AddictedMMA we always sign off with our signature question: Besides MMA, what is Davey Grant addicted to?

Tough question, but at the moment the only thing on my mind is food.

And there you have it Addicts! Davey Grant will be fighting in the headline bout at Shock N Awe 11 this Saturday 14th July! With the welterweight title being up for grabs expect nothing short of a war between Grant and Pennington as two genuine top contenders compete for the honour of holding the Shock N Awe belt!
