Andy Cona Eyes Gold.
Friend of the Addicted and hard hitting mixed martial artist Andy Cona returns to the cage this weekend down at Nick "The Head Hunters" Fight Science Gym in Aldershot. Andy will be looking to take home the UK 1 lightweight title. Standing in Andy`s way will be local and well seasoned fighter Nigel whitear.Andy has kept himself very busy consistently taking on exceptionably tough opponents in these early stages of his career. This has not helped Andy`s record but at the same time has earnt him the reputation as an anywhere, anytime type of fighter. Unafraid of facing adversity and constantly bringing excitement to any fight card that has his name on it, Andy comes to bring the war. It's always a pleasure to chat to Andy so I have jumped at the chance to get a second innings in with the Geordie who loves nothing more than throwing bombs with his opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, lets welcome back Andy Cona.
Addicted: Andy! It's great to catch up again. How are you and tell us what you have been up to recently?
Andy: Hey guys! how are you all doing ? I am as always doing well and still smiling and also still fighting.
Addicted: We are great thanks Andy. How has your preparation gone for this match up with the very experienced Nigel Whitear?
Andy: Well as you know I have dropped to light weight now and i am not just prepping to fight Nigel. I am getting ready to take on any MMA fighter put in front of me, and as always my answer will still always remain the same- YES !!
Addicted: That's the Andy Cona we know and love. What do you know about Nigel and how do you see this fight playing out?
Andy: I know Nigel is one of the great Nick "The Headhunter" Champmans boys so I know he is going to be a warrior as nick is a true legend. But if this guy is thinking he`s got an easy fight then he is sadly mistaken.
Addicted: Everybody knows your hands are dangerous, so all of your opponents generally look to get to the mat with you. Who have you been working with to fill this part of your game?
Andy: Sometimes in MMA good hands don't win fights, but if I catch any fighter with them they will be going down to the ground. I have been working with some good guys, they are big strong and push me to the max and I feel fitter than ever and ready to go as we speak. I take a lot of calls asking me to fight and I always say yes .So I have to be ready at all times as I will fight on any given notice.
Addicted: Most of your fights seem to be down south, how's your cockney accent coming along?
Andy: Not good! ha ha ha ha, I love fighting away from home, I meet new fantastic people and fighters being part of these shows, it's just a dream come true. Five years ago no one Knew me, I had nothing and now I Know some of the best people in the MMA industry and some amazing people who follow me, it's an honour, it just shows that there is a life out there if you want it. To anyone who is sat at home thinking I would like to do that, don't sit there get up and do it.
Addicted: Sound advice buddy. You are staying very active on the circuit Andy. Have you been lucky with injuries or have you just been able to work through them?
Andy: I get hurt every fight but I will never show it, I will never let any man see weakness in me.
Addicted: Are there any other fights on this card that you are looking forward to seeing?
Andy: There is, I am coming to London with a very close friend of mine and he has his first pro fight, his name is KRIS HORNER ,this is one fight I really want to watch. I know what kris can do and this guy is one to watch.
Addicted: Of course you have another match up due quite soon after this fight against Fadi Jameel at the Troxy for the UCMMA. Do you find your thoughts sneaking over to that fight at all or are you able to concentrate solely on Nigel?
Andy: I stay focused on the fight in hand; as soon as I am home I plan for the next guy. It's just the way I work and the way I like it.
Addicted: Any shout outs you would like to put out there Andy?
Andy: Firstly to you for taking the time, also my three amazing kids for giving me love and strength to get through every fight. My amazing friends for their support, my trainers Kris Horner and Simon Watson, and I would like to thank my close friend who passed away a few month ago ,who always believed in me, and he is with me every fight. MR JOE WARD rest in peace my friend, this one is for you. And may I say how proud i am of Craig ward, Dean Ward and Julie Ward for staying strong and keep smiling. Big thanks to all who have taken the time in reading this and I will see you all soon, UK1 title YOUR MINE!!!!
Addicted: And of course it's time for our signature question Andy. What is Andy Cona addicted to at the moment?
