Jack Shore: Looking to put on a show at UIC 8
You would think that young Jack Shore would have the weight of the world on his shoulders. Not only is his father UK MMA pioneer Richard "Shaky" Shore but coming with that means that Jack is also a part of the hugely successful Tillery Combat Gym. With the likes of Jack Marshman, Martin McDonough and Joe Orrey to name a few having so much recent success, you wouldn't be wrong in thinking he had plenty of massive shoes to fill. But none of these things seem to bother Jack. Already heralded as the next big thing by his team mates, Jack keeps his feet squarely on the ground and goes about his business learning everything he needs to know to take his next win home.
You will hear those Tillery boys cheering the Tank on when he dons his gloves on the 4th of August. There is a great night of scraps brewing in Cheltenham for the Ultimate Impact fight card headed by the final in the trilogy match of Caers vs Constantine.
Jack Shore will be stepping into the cage with Jordan Garnett and he will be looking to take a little of that thunder for himself. With a long and exciting journey ahead of him Addicted MMA thought we would take the chance to speak to Jack before he really gets into his stride.
AddictedMMA: Hey Jack, thanks for taking the time to chat with us, how are you and how is training going for you?
Jack: Hi guys, firstly, I'd just like to say thanks for having me. Training is going great thanks; I've been training hard and putting in a lot of time at the gym. A lot of boys at Tillery Combat have fights coming up, so it's we have all been pushing each other in training.
AddictedMMA: You are a young man in one of the hardest and oldest industries on the planet; have you set yourself any goals for the future?
Jack: I have a lot of goals when it comes to MMA. Obviously my goal for each fight/competition is to win and put on a good performance, but I would say that my main goal in the sport would be to progress through the levels, become an established professional and I'd like to fight for a big organisation such as Cage Warriors or BAMMA
AddictedMMA: So who has been giving you the toughest time on the mats?
Jack: There are a few people who regularly enjoy giving me a hard time on the mats (laughing). Firstly Kris 'Evil' Edwards because he is 57kg of pure evilness. Whether it be going to the sauna, hitting pads or sparring, Kris has always helped me to improve and become a better all-round mixed martial artist and I can't wait to see him fight on Saturday.
Another is Martin 'Mr Pink' McDonough, whether it be on the ground or stood up Mr Pink always gives me a tough time and I believe it won't be long until he is fighting for a big promotion. I also train a lot with Kyle Prosser and we push each other hard. Kyle is gonna be one to watch over the next 12 months. It's also nice to train with Jack Marshman when he's home because he is always helping me improve upon my striking.
But as you probably already know the old man Richard Shore is always the one giving me the toughest time on the mats. His grappling is so hard to deal with and he's always helping me improve.
AddictedMMA: This is a cracking fight card that you are set to appear on, how excited were you about it when you were asked if you would fight?
Jack: I was really excited when I found out that I had been matched for this card. There are some great match ups. It's a great run show and I am really looking forward to being part of it. Michael Jones, Robbie Lewis and Ryan Marshall are also fighting on the card and having trained with these three guys for so long it will be nice to see them do the business.
AddictedMMA: So who have been your major inspirations within the sport?
Jack: My main inspiration within the sport is my father and coach Richard "Shaky" Shore. He's seen it and done it all. He was recently awarded his BJJ Brown Belt and has fought at all levels in both MMA and BJJ. Without him Tillery Combat wouldn't be where it is today and I think it's safe to say he makes everyone at the gym want to train hard and succeed.
AddictedMMA: So your fight with Jordan is just around the corner, do you know much about him?
Jack: I don't know much about Jordan, which means that I have trained for this fight to go anywhere, I am comfortable wherever the fight goes and I look forward to putting on a show on the night.
AddictedMMA: Do you have a message that you would like to send him ahead of the fight?
Jack: I would like to thank him for taking the fight with me and let's put on a good fight on August the 4th.
AddictedMMA: Do you ever feel any extra pressure having your dad as your head coach or do you feel that it works as a positive for you?
Jack: I believe it works as a positive for me. I am so used to hearing him scream from the sidelines that it's become second nature to just follow his instructions (even if he is close to a heart attack when I'm competing!!)
AddictedMMA: Your mates must get well jealous of your lifestyle. Training with champion mixed martial artists, getting to go to fight shows all the time, hanging out with some of the hottest ring girls in the UK. Chatting with Johny Boy Champ online. Do you ever think to yourself "Wow!! What's next"?
Jack: Haha yes I have got it pretty good. Sometimes I do think what's next, Tillery Combat is always improving and it's crazy to see how fast its progressed in a short space of time.
Also speaking to the peoples champ Johnny boy is unreal. The man is a living legend and getting to speak to him online is something I never thought I'd do. I am hoping to train with Johnny in the near future.
AddictedMMA: Any shout outs you would like to chuck out there Jack?
Jack: I would like to thank Ultimate Impact for giving me the opportunity to fight on their show, my Dad Richard Shore and all my team mates at Tillery Combat for helping me prepare for this fight and my sponsors Gladiator and Aphrodite Nutrition and Black Eagle /Predator BJJ for their support.
AddictedMMA: And of course our signature question. Outside of martial arts, what is Jack "The Tank" Shore Addicted to?
Jack: I recently passed my driving test so at the moment I am Addicted to driving.
AddictedMMA: Thanks Jack and all the best for August 4th.
