Frankie Edgar Expecting To Be A Little Quicker At 145lbs"I don't think it's going to affect my speed, if anything I might get a little quicker I think, taking a little weight off. Some of the guys have to cut more weight than I will still, at 145. Frankly, I felt pretty strong at 155 and I think that will carry over to 45 nicely. The guys are quicker at 45, I've spoke about that before, but, again, I think will have a little bit more mass behind myself or at least favorable to my opponent where in the past at 55 I was giving up a lot of weight. I'm definitely a fan of him. He's an explosive guy, a dynamic striker. I guess on that level, I was a fan, checking him out and seeing some of the stuff he did. My team, my coaches, Mark Henry, he is very detailed. So, I'm sure he's been watching Aldo tapes for quite a while now, so we jump started on this camp pretty nicely."
30 year old Frankie "The Answer" Edgar talks for the first time since he was handed a shock UFC Featherweight title shot against Jose "Scarface" Aldo at UFC 153, which takes place in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Edgar thinks that the drop to 145lbs can improve his all round game, and that his speed and strength will not suffer for his first ever featherweight bout, even if it is against the best 145lber of all time.
The bout with Aldo will be the seventh straight bout where Edgar (14-3-1) has been competing for UFC gold, after winning, defending, losing and then challenging for the lightweight strap over the last couple of years. Edgar is coming off a very controversial decision loss to Benson Henderson at UFC 150, with many in the MMA world thinking Edgar did enough to regain his title.
UFC 153 will also mark the third time that Edgar has headlined an overseas card for the promotion. Edgar previously competed in main event title bouts in Abu Dhabi (vs. BJ Penn) for UFC 112, and Japan (vs. Benson Henderson) at UFC 144.
